Your gift helps to keep GEHLI programs innovative and new. Monetary gifts may be designated for one of our four programs:

  • The Virginia Commonwealth University Leadership Development Program sponsors approximately 25 VCU faculty and staff each year. During the program, participants learn about issues in higher education and at VCU, examine their own leadership strengths and challenges, meet monthly with a mentor from senior administration, and immerse themselves in real-world team projects.
  • The Department Chairs Program develops the leadership capacities of unit leaders at VCU. The curriculum for the department chair training is designed with input from the provost, deans and other senior administrators. The program strengthens general leadership skills while also providing very specific information relevant to the department chair role. In addition, department chairs benefit from a climate of support and the opportunity to build valuable relationships among other chairs and university officials.
  • The HIGHER Ground Women’s Leadership Development Program brings emerging women leaders from higher education, public, private, nonprofit and faith-based organizations for a five-month intensive experience in professional leadership development. This highly rated program received initial funding support from the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund. The training fosters collaboration across organizational settings, as well as among women from diverse racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
  • The Minority Political Leadership Institute is a collaborative initiative of the Virginia Black Legislative Caucus Foundation and the institute. Designed for participants interested in leadership issues facing underserved communities, the program offers insights and concepts regarding personal leadership, policy and legislative processes to cultivate a deeper understanding of legacy, responsible stewardship, public service and integrity for future leaders.
