| Welcome to the Political Science program of the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
Here we offer a comprehensive understanding of the nature and the functioning of political and governmental processes.
This includes the study of all four sub-fields of political science: American Government, Political Theory, Comparative Politics, and International Relations.
The curriculum provides a solid foundation for graduate study in a number of fields: political science, public administration, public policy, international affairs, non-profit management, and of course law school.
Our courses emphasize writing, communication, and analytical skills in ways that prepare students for careers in government at the local, state, federal, and international level.
We offer a wide range of courses. For example, US Parties and Elections, State and Local Government, History of Political Thought, Governments and Politics of the Middle East, and International Political Economy.
VCU’s location -- in a state capital, 90 miles from the nation’s capital -- allows our program to offer internship opportunities.
Our program is known for its commitment to teaching as well as research and our graduates have gone on to rewarding careers in public service and further study at the finest graduate schools.
We hope you’ll come to VCU to study with us.
