The L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs is pleased to announce that the 4th Annual Excellence in Virginia Government Awards will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008, from 11:30 – 2pm at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.  We hope you will become involved in this most exciting event!  The EVGA celebrates outstanding individuals and organizations, in the public and private sector, which have made noteworthy contributions to the practice of government and to the welfare of our communities and citizens.

The EVGA also recognizes and supports the next generation of leaders in public service.  All proceeds from the EVGA fund scholarships for exceptional Wilder School students.  This year, four students have received EVGA academic scholarships honoring 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Dr. Robert G. Templin. EVGA scholarships are designed to cultivate a new generation of outstanding student leaders in the areas of government and community service.

Background

The Excellence in Virginia Government Awards (EVGA) is the signature event of the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.  Held each year in late fall, the awards honor exemplary leadership.  In the past 3 years, awards have been given out in seven categories: lifetime achievement, community enhancement, expansion of freedom, innovation in government, public-private partnership, public information, and unsung heroes.   We invite nominations from the public for all award categories.

In 2007, over 400 individuals and 28 sponsors attended the EVGA.   We thank everyone who sponsored and attended the event.
