The Excellence in Virginia Government Awards (EVGA) are presented by Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs to celebrate the accomplishments of Virginians who have made distinctive contributions to the practice of government and to the well-being of our communities and our citizens.  Now entering its fifth year, the EVGA has become a hallmark of excellence for both VCU and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Last year’s EVGA ceremony was a tremendous success with over 350 individuals and 24 sponsors attending the event.  Some notable attendants included Governor Tim Kaine, First Lady Anne Holton, former Governor Linwood Holton, former Senator John Warner, Congressman Bobby Scott and former Mayor Douglas Wilder, and many other VIPs from around Virginia.

The EVGA ceremony offers an ideal opportunity to recognize exemplary leadership and innovation while expanding interest and excitement in the field of public service.  The EVGA is funded entirely by financial sponsorships provided by public, private and non-profit organizations and individuals, and one of the most exciting features of the event is that all proceeds are used to fund scholarships for Wilder School students in honor of the previous year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.  The EVGA scholarship is designed to cultivate a new generation of outstanding student leaders in the areas of government and community service.  The 2009 EVGA Student Scholars will be named at this year’s ceremony and will honor Susan Aheron Magill, former Chief of Staff to Senator John Warner – the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.  Please consider becoming a sponsor of the 2009 Excellence in Virginia Government Awards.
