The L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs’ December Graduation ceremony is scheduled at 2:00pm (2:00pm to 4:00pm 2hour event) on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Stuart C. Siegel Center 1200 W. Broad Street. We desire to create an atmosphere filled with positive memory making opportunities for you, your family and friends; therefore, we are requesting your assistance with the following:
1. Please arrive by 1:30pm (not earlier than 1:15pm or later than 1:45pm) with your complete graduation wardrobe (cap, gown, hoods and Honor Cords). Enter the Siegel Center by the Harrison Street entrance. Proceed to the Auxiliary Gym Room 144 for further instructions.
2. Report to Program Coordinator in the program of your primary major. (There will be signage visible for each program).
3. Pay close attention to the Program Coordinator who will organize each line of graduates in alphabetical order. The Coordinators will hand you an index card, please print legibly your full name (also add accents or hyphens where appropriate for pronunciation purposes) then return the card to the Coordinator. Your name will be called by the program in alphabetical order during the ceremony (this will provide opportunity for photographs).
4. Please turn off your cell phones during the ceremony. Usage of “Blue Tooth” or other cell phone head set equipmentare prohibited during the ceremony.
5. During the ceremony, please pay close attention to the Program Coordinator who will direct you where to walk across the stage. For the purposes of photo opportunities and as a time-saver, you will receive a mock roll of parchment when you walk across the stage.
6. Return to the graduate sitting area, remaining seated until the end of the ceremony. Please demonstrate respect for those classmates and guests who have not received their diplomas.
7. The Registrar’s Office will mail the diploma to the address indicated on your graduation application.
We request the assistance from your family and friends with the following instructions:
1. Family and friends may enter by the Bowe and Harrison Street entrances, but should not arrive earlier than 1:30pm.
2. Please follow the instructions of the ushers and staff members.
3. Please remain seated until the end of the ceremony. The procession of the graduates will allow for plenty of photo opportunities. The goal is to have all guests hear their loved ones name called and see them walk across the stage. |
