Dear Graduate:
Congratulations! We the Faculty and staff wish to express our sincere joy in the achievement of this moment.
The L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs’ graduation ceremony is scheduled at 2:30pm (2:30pm to 4:30pm 2hour event) on May 17, 2008 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center 403 North 3rd Street, Exhibit Hall A. We desire to create an atmosphere filled with positive memory making opportunities for you, your family and friends; therefore, we are requesting your assistance with the following instructions:
1 Please arrive by 2:00pm (not earlier than 1:45pm or later than 2:15pm) with your complete graduation wardrobe (cap, gown and Honor cords and hoods). Enter the convention center on the 3rd and Marshall Street entrance. Proceed to Meeting Rooms E10B, E10C and E10D for further instructions.
2 Report to Program Coordinator and Program of your primary major. (There is will be designated signage visible for each program).
3 Pay close attention to the Program Coordinator instructions who will organize each program procession lines in alphabetical order. Each coordinator will hand you a pre-printed name card, please review for the correct spelling, make corrections or changes if required and return the card to the Coordinator. Your name will be called in alphabetical order.
4 Please turn off your cell phones during the ceremony. “Blue Tooth” or other cell phone head set equipment are prohibited during the ceremony.
5 During the Graduation Ceremony, pay close attention to the Program Coordinator who will direct you through out the ceremony. To save time you will receive a mock roll of parchment when you walk across the stage.
6 Return to the graduate sitting area, remaining seated until the end of the ceremony. This will demonstrate respect for those classmates and guest who have not received their diplomas while maintaining an orderly program.
7. Diplomas will not be given out until after the ceremony is over. A faculty member will be after the ceremony to take your name and contact information to research missing diplomas. Examples or reasons for diplomas not being available are:Primary major is not in the Wilder School, Honors status has changed, a hold on your account, have an incomplete or without a grade, did not pass a class you need to graduate.
We request the assistance from your family and friends with the following instructions:
1. Family and friends can enter on the5th and Marshall Street Entrance, but should not arrive earlier than 2:00pm.
2. We ask that your family and friends follow the instructions of the ushers and staff members who will be present to ensure their safety and enjoyment of the ceremony.
3. Please remain seated until the end of the ceremony. The procession of the graduates will allow for plenty of photo opportunities. The goal is to have all family members to see their graduate walk and hear their name being called.
4. Please turn off all cell phones or place on vibrate.
5. In order to respect the other ceremonies in the adjoining halls bull horns, whistles or devices that make loud noises will not be permitted.
6. Enjoy this memory making event in your life.
The College of Humanities and Sciences will host a graduation reception for all graduates of the college and their guests following commencement exercises at the Richmond Coliseum.
