| The Compass Math Placement Test |
|
You may take the Compass Test if you are a current VCU student, or if you want to challenge the placement results you received from taking the VCU Online Math Placement Test. The VCU Compass Mathematics Placement Test is administered at the University College in a monitored setting. To take the placement test, you must make an appointment with Mark Bassard by phone: (804) 827-8120 or email: mbassard@vcu.edu. There is no time limit for the test, although most students take approximately 1/2 to 1 hour to complete it. You must provide picture identification in order to take the placement test. A basic/scientific calculator is built into Compass. If you want to use a graphing calculator you need to provide your own and it must be an approved calculator. For example, calculators with a built-in Algebra System (i.e. TI 89 or TI 92) are not allowed. Nor may you use the calculator features of cell phones or PDA’s. Scratch paper is provided for the test and collected at its conclusion. You may take the VCU Compass Mathematics Placement Test multiple times in a semester. There is no cost for the first attempt. There is a $15 charge for each subsequent attempt. There is a one day minimum wait after the first attempt, and a 30 day wait between each attempt thereafter. Here are some resources to help you prepare for the Compass test. |
