Art Therapy
Art therapy is a vital part of programs offered at Virginia Treatment Center for
Children (VTCC). All children and adolescent patients in the Intermediate Programs at VTCC
attend weekly art therapy groups. Art therapy assist our young patients in exploring their
feelings and issues through drawing, painting, sculpture, storytelling, and drama. Art
therapy engages the patients' senses and allows for expression of feelings that may
otherwise remain hidden or unarticulated. The very act of tapping on one's inner resources
empowers the patient and promotes a feeling of mastery and increased self-esteem.
Below are pictures of the artwork created by some of the young patients at VTCC. These
pictures were previously published in a VTCC calendar titled "Drawing From
Within".
