Social Media and the Presidential Race

Social Media and the Presidential Race will examine the role that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social networking tools play in the 2012 elections. The course will explore how candidates, political organizations, citizens, the media and other groups use social media to influence and mobilize voters. Through seminar discussions and hands-on activities, students will learn how social media shape campaign strategies, fundraising, news coverage and other aspects of politics. (Note: This course will be team-taught by Marcus Messner and Jeff South of the School of Mass Comm.)
