The Honors Community
The Honors College Mentorship Program
All first-year students are invited to participate in The Honors College Mentorship Program. In this unique program, upperclassmen volunteer to serve as mentors, offering support and assistance to new honors students during their first semester at VCU.
Mentors are available to answer questions throughout the summer prior to enrollment and are on hand to help orient first-year honors students to campus. Early in the fall, The Honors College hosts a kick-off event for mentees and mentors to meet face to face for the first time. Mentors then meet with their mentee, whether in person, over the phone or during lunch, to help him or her understand the privileges and responsibilities of being in The Honors College and make the transition into college life.
Continuing students who are interested in serving as a mentor should attend an information session during the spring semester. A schedule of sessions, dates and times will be listed in the honors weekly updates. First year students interested in participation should submit an application . Applications for first-year students are due July 15 and should be submitted via email to the Assistant to the Director of Student Services.
Graduate School Mentorship Program
The Graduate School Mentorship Program matches undergraduate and graduate students in mutually beneficial mentoring relationships.
The program exposes honors students to the graduate experience as they consider options and make decisions about post-baccalaureate study, as well as make the transition from undergraduate to graduate students. The experience also grants graduate students the opportunity to develop mentoring skills as they share their own personal experiences with the undergraduate participants in the program.
Complete information about the program, including application forms and contact information is available from the Graduate School.
